80% of public health facilities are substandard: Govt survey

Nearly 80% of India's public health facilities fail to meet minimum standards for infrastructure, manpower, and equipment, according to a government self-assessment under the National Health Mission (NHM). Out of over 200,000 facilities, only 8,089 scored 80% or higher for compliance. The Centre aims to make 70,000 facilities compliant within 100 days and will conduct surprise inspections. The NHM covers 60% of the costs, with states covering the rest.
