An Asha worker is engaged under the National Health Mission to aid in curbing maternal and newborn deaths by alerting people to timely immunisations and institutional deliveries. There are 6,500 Asha workers in Delhi. Asha workers are paid on an incentive basis for immunisation and related health services. A city Asha worker earns between Rs 6,000 and Rs 11,000 every month.
