Human toxocariasis is caused by parasitic roundworms carried by cats and dogs. A new study estimated the prevalence of toxocariasis in people worldwide, finding that about one-fifth of the world’s population (1.4 billion) carries antibodies against Toxocara (n=265,327 in 71 countries).
